Abashiri, Japan—DENSO will begin testing vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems on public roads in Japan this spring.
Vehicle-to-vehicle communication allows automobiles to interact via radio waves by sending and receiving information. This technology is expected to improve traffic safety, such as preventing vehicle collisions.
DENSO Abashiri Testing Center Corporation, DENSO’s subsidiary in Abashiri, has proving grounds that will enable an effective comparison of results from tests performed on public roads and those performed on a test track. Testing is scheduled to continue through March 2011.
In the United States, DENSO is working with industry consortiums and government agencies to test wireless technology that allows data to be transmitted to and from the roadside as well as between vehicles.
These tests are being conducted in several test-bed deployment areas, where roadside “hotspot” wireless network access points are located, including in Michigan and California. The tests incorporate the recently specified DSRC (dedicated short range communications) trial standard in the 5.9 GHz frequency spectrum.
