DENSO International America, Inc.

The first DENSO associate arrived in North America to look for business opportunities nearly 45 years ago. With very little money and a limited grasp of the English language, that first associate experienced a very difficult year.

This was DENSO's start in North America. Now, DENSO has nearly 30 companies, joint ventures and affiliates in three countries and employs more than 17,000.

1964

First DENSO associate arrives in USA to look for business opportunities.

1965

First DENSO product sold in North America (a starter-generator for a chainsaw).

1966

Opened sales offices in Chicago and Los Angeles.

1967

DENSO Corporation liaison office opened in Southfield, Mich.

1971

DENSO Sales California, Inc. (DSCA) established.

1972

DENSO Sales Canada, Inc. (DSCN) established.

1975

DENSO Sales, Inc. (now merged into DENSO International America, Inc.) in Southfield, Mich., established.

1977

DENSO Sales California begins production of remanufactured parts and sets up diesel service network.

1979

DENSO Distribution Center built in Battle Creek, Mich.

1984

DENSO Sales California, Inc. new plant built in Long Beach, Calif.

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. (DMMI), in Battle Creek, Mich., established.

1985

DENSO International America, Inc. and DENSO Technical Center, U.S.A., Inc. in Southfield, Mich., established.

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. production started in Battle Creek, Mich.

Michigan Automotive Compressor pledges $300,000 to establish MACI Youth Fund to support youth education.

Industry Week magazine names DENSO Manufacturing Michigan in Battle Creek one of "America's Top Ten Plants."

1992

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan earns Michigan Chamber of Commerce Environmental Quality Award.

SYSTEX Products Corporation (SPC) in Battle Creek, Mich., established.

1993

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognizes DENSO as a world leader in protecting the ozone layer from harmful automotive air conditioning coolants by presenting the company with its Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award.

State-of-the-art Climatic Wind Tunnel opens at DENSO International America Technical Center to support North American customers.

ASMO Detroit, Inc. (ADI) in Novi, Mich., established.
