DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee

A wetland learning environment at DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. (DMTN) is the backdrop for local elementary school students and home-schooled students receiving an eco-education there.

DENSO’s non-profit partner Keep Blount Beautiful (KBB), a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, conducts lessons in an outdoor pavilion on recycling, litter prevention, pollution prevention, and composting.

Elementary students also learn about storm-water pollution, a major focus for DENSO’s three-acre environmental site. This area is designed to detain and gradually cleanse storm-water from adjacent rooftops, parking lots, and roads.

DENSO and KBB joined ecological forces in recognition of their respective 20-year anniversaries as a community gift. The project is a first of its kind for the region. Funds were raised by KBB for a DENSO pavilion, while DENSO provided land, trails, trees, and other resources through EcoPark.

DENSO maintains the land, where native plants, grasses, trees, small wildlife and a variety of birds can flourish.

This project can be a model for other communities displaying how industry and non-profits can partner to educate youth about the environment.
