Masahiko "Mack" Hattori became DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee's (DMTN) fifth president April 5, 2004, serving his second assignment at the company. Hattori was also DMTN's procurement manager for five years between 1990-95.
During his first year as DMTN president, Hattori began overseeing an expansion plan to produce more than 200 new associates. Among DMTN's awards announced in 2004 were the following:
- New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. Triple Crown Award (quality, delivery, cost) - Instrument Cluster Division
- Subaru of America President's Award for quality five consecutive years - Starter/Alternator Division
- Achievement award, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, in recognition of
Program Launch performance achievement of Sienna Engine - Electronics Division.
- Achievement award, Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, in recognition of
instrument cluster performance for Lexus launch, Canada - Instrument Cluster
Division.
- Kentucky/Tennessee Water Environment Association Pretreatment Excellence Award
(only Tennessee manufacturer to receive this award for 10 consecutive years)
Hattori, born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, began working for DENSO Corporation (DNJP) in 1977 in the sales department after obtaining an economics degree from Osaka University. He spent most of his career in procurement, and prior to his Tennessee assignment, was DNJP's general manager of electronics procurement. He and his wife, Taeko, have two sons. He enjoys golf, jogging, playing the guitar and reading.
DMTN employs nearly 3,000 people with a payroll exceeding $107 million for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005. The company's total investment is nearly $900 million for its three manufacturing divisions producing electronic products, instrument clusters and display units, starters and alternators.
