DENSO International America (DIAM) - Friends of the Rouge, a non-profit environmental group created to promote restoration and stewardship of the Rouge River which flows through Southfield, recently presented Best Friends of the Rouge awards, the organization's highest honor. DIAM was the only corporation to be honored with the award.

DIAM has been actively supporting Friends of the Rouge for four years through activities such as:

  • Organizing corporate volunteers for the annual Rouge Rescue
  • Contributing money and volunteers to support the Rouge Education Project's Adopt-A-School program
  • Donating a van for the organization's use and providing modular furniture and other office furnishings
  • Supporting other fundraising activities

Accepting the award for DIAM, John Voorhorst, vice president, External Affairs, said,"One of DENSO's key missions worldwide is to actively work with third parties in identifying ways to better safeguard the environment. So this award is both an honor and a local validation that DENSO is fulfilling its environmental mission."
