DENSO Manufacturing Michigan — Three DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. (DMMI) associates – Joe Stich, Andris Staltmanis, and Bryan Denbrock – recently participated in the annual University of Michigan Japan Technology Management Program’s lean manufacturing
conference in May at the Ypsilanti Marriott at Eagle Crest Resort in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Stich joined keynote speakers from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, and New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) to discuss how their companies are creating lean manufacturing cultures, covering several key concepts that DMMI is using to achieve this goal, including:
- Creating a kaizen culture
- Frequent delivery/order system
- Frequent pick-up
- Basic tools to operate the system
- Standard analysts tools’
- Small lot production
During a session entitled Learning from the Toyota Group Experience, Staltmanis and Denbrock expanded upon Stich’s presentation, sharing their experiences and initiatives in implementing “Efficient Factory,” which is DMMI’s effort to become
lean and continue its successful adaptation of the Toyota Production System.
Stich, a DMMI associate since 1988, was promoted to general manager of production in 2004, responsible for manufacturing and operations as well as Process Engineering, Plant Engineering, Efficient Factory Leadership and Toyota Production System (TPS) Promotion.
Staltmanis was named assistant general manager of Manufacturing Engineering in 2004, responsible for promoting and introducing lean manufacturing concepts. He joined the organization in 1986.
Denbrock is section leader in the Manufacturing Engineering department, responsible for improving the productivity of the HVAC plant. He has been a DMMI associate for the past 16 years.
